It's officially spring and that means it's time to countdown to my favorite time of year...Summer! I live for endless days, warm night and afternoon thunderstorms. Summer is simply THE. BEST.
Summer also means we will soon be launching our summer collection (We only have two releases a year- summer and holiday) It's filled with all types of Florida pretties. From paper and gifts to home decor and poolside essentials, Endless Summer 2017 is everything your little sunseeking heart has ever dreamed of!
In the meantime, I wanted to tell you about something near and dear to me and that is my home state, Florida. Now, I know Florida is the place of crazy headlines (and crazier elections) but that's not the Florida I'm talking about...I'm talking about my Florida.
You see, my Florida is endless back roads and empty beaches. It's fresh squeezed orange juice straight from your neighbor's tree and gigantic watermelons Poppy grew in his own garden. It's Papa picking up a stick sugar cane from the guy on the side of the road and cutting it into strips with his pocket knife before handing them to me and my sisters. It's the old orange grove in Citra, Highwaymen paintings and roadside souvenir stands. It's growing up picking strawberries in Plant City and blueberries in Bostwick.
My Florida is summer trips to Silver Springs and Wild Waters and riding bikes with my Grammy in Cedar Key. It's dreaming of being a mermaid at Weeki Wachee and learning to snorkel at Ginnie. It's eating my graduation dinner over the water at Angelo's in Panacea and scarfing down pancakes at DeLeon Springs. It's falling in love in Cape San Blas and antiquing in Apalachicola before scalloping in Port St. Joe Bay. It's driving down to Marathon and jumping into the ocean at Sombrero Reef every.single.year.
My Florida is Florida Classic weekend and never forgetting Rosewood. It's crab boils and fish fries and Fourth of Julys in Daytona Beach. It's brunch with my mother in law on St. Armands and letting my toddler run into the Gulf at Siesta Key on Thanksgiving day. It's every girls weekend in South Beach and horseback riding on Amelia at sunrise. It's first birthdays at Disney and field trips to the Fort. It's bare feet on warm concrete and fireflies flitting around in the North Florida marsh at sunset, when the sky looks like a cotton candy watercolor hand painted by God himself. It's wild and it's free. It's home.
There is no other publication that captures the spirit of Florida like Flamingo Magazine. Will and I stumbled across this gem last summer and we've been obsessed ever since. There are very few magazines that are must reads for us, but this one hits the mark every.single.time.
New issues are released only four times a year and Spring 2017 just hit newsstands. I mean, with articles on Janet Reno, Lilly Pulitzer, sea turtles and Bobby Bowden?! Then add in a sprinkle of arts, culture and shopping + dining local? It doesn't get more Florida than that!
In honor of Flamingo's newest issue and as a way to reintroduce ourselves, leave a comment below telling me your favorite thing about living in Florida and I will randomly select 3 friends and send them a copy of this gorgeous magazine that celebrates all the best things about this beautiful and sometimes crazy place we call home.
